We were asked by long term local authority client East Sussex County Council to help with the launch of their new flagship online social care and support directory. Designed to be the defintive local resource for services and care providers, it brings together groups and organisations that offer care, support and wellbeing services to people across the county. The 1Space directory combines data from multiple sources and service listings are reviewed yearly to ensure currency and relevance and help build trust.
We created wireframes and protoypes to test functionality, content hierarchy and layout and tested these with users and stakeholders before designing the entire directory frontend and admin UI for the entire website including custom iconography, mapping and alternate stylesheets to improve accessibility for users with visual impairments.
We also helped with brand naming, created the core brand identity and associated graphic language and designed all offline marketing and print material to raise brand awareness around the launch of the directory and supplied a visual style guide to ensure ongoing design consistency

Graphic Language
The 1Space directory uses a category search tree to make listing and finding useful services much easier for all users and giving an alternative to free-text entry.
To help with this, we extended the design language with a suite of bespoke icons designed to illustrate the categories in use.
These, along with the core branding, colour palettes and UI designs were tested with facilitated user-groups and front-line staff workshops. They were checked for legibility and comprehension and also among users with learning disabilities and special needs.
